Mixing support services and mentoring with bariatric surgery, proves successful
West Orange, NJ ~ The growing obesity epidemic is one of many reasons Dr. Jordan Garrison, a well-respected board-certified general surgeon specializing in bariatric surgery, founded the Garrison Center for Healthy Living. Dr. Garrison is fellowship trained in bariatrics at St. Clare Bariatric Center of Excellence and he knows that the risks of being overweight do not have to be permanent. In fact, there is strong evidence that weight loss reduces risk factors for diabetes and cardiovascular disease, as well as other obesity-related diseases. At the Garrison Center his emphasis is to offer a comprehensive approach to overcoming the obesity crisis.
According to the US Center for Disease Control’s 2009 statistics, an estimated 97 million adults in the United States are overweight or obese. This is particularly alarming since this condition substantially raises the risk of morbidity from hypertension, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, and respiratory problems. Being overweight or obese also increases the risk for endometrial, breast, prostate, and colon cancers.
