DIGITAL TV TRANSITION SEMINAR HELD

  Department of hosted a free seminar to educate seniors on the digital TV transition and information they need to know that will affect those who watch free over the air television
The seminar, presented by John Guisti of the Federal Communication Commission, focused on the new law that goes into effect on February 17, 2009.

The digital TV transition has been implemented for public safety. The switch will free up frequencies for police, fire and emergency rescue communications, while allowing broadcasters to offer better picture and sound quality and more program choices. The new system will also allow for more commercial advance wireless services.

The Federal Government is offering United State household up to two $40 coupons to help pay for certified TV converter boxes. A converter box is a one-time purchase that will allow consumers to use analog TV after the February 17, 2009 deadline.
