I feel safe in my neighborhood. But I will admit, I never, ever walk down 10th Avenue; it’s the one street that I avoid.

I’ve lived in Paterson for 48 years and I love my community, I believe we fear the unknown, we need to get out of our comforts zone an start inbracing our youths. Start making yourself know to those in your community, it cost you nothing to speak, a kind word can go a long way.
Those who are afraid, are you afraid of those you have not spoken to today? we need to get back to the basic, learn to encourage those who need encouragement, and watch fear disappear.

WE as a city allow it to happen. STOP voting people who just want their name to begin with honorable (you know the ones). They have to speak up for us. Citizens WE have to check people who hang out, litter, curse in front of kids like it’s okay, boycott radio stations, country or hip hop, (not go to the station but don’t play their station) that curse and belittle people like it’s okay. WE have to check cops who look down at us like we are all low life’s and criminals and check their adminstrators that allow it. WE have to check the school system that is “playing politics” with our childrens future. Most of all check our own kids because WE know they are hanging out scaring your neighbors. WE have to say enough is enough. We have to stop settling for second best and excuses. Paterson has a rich history make your kids part of this great history. Let’s have a meeting that is really going to make change.

Those who state we fear the unknown. know nothing about crime. How about living right by a baseball field that gun fire is frequently heard at night. How about thinking one of these days the bullet is gonna go right through our house for sure. This to us isn’t fear of the unknown. It’s fear of knowing that something bad will eventually happen.

In reality if don’t feel safe in your community, you need to really step up and take control.

I also lived in area where there were people shooting up and drug infected.

I contacted my council person he did a tour of the area, which I was very happy and he step up patrol.

    Thanks Mr. Groow

I feel afraid for my 16 year old.
I worry about him whenever he is outside…
whether he’s on his way to or from school, church, a family or friend’s house, Mickey D’s!!
I take pride in teaching him to respect others .
I worry that he’ll say , do, look, blink in the wrong way at the wrong person and his life will be over. This is not how the world is supposed to be!

I grew up in Paterson. When I was 10 years old we could sleep outside on hot summer nights. We could race down West Broadway…Barefoot at 11:00 at night with our Parents cheering us on.

    Those days are GONE!
“It takes a village?”… Sadly, the village is aflame!
