JFK High School's Marching Band at the 2008 Puerto Rican Parade

JFK High School's Marching Band at the 2008

The JFK high school Marching Band made their presence felt at the Paterson .  I have noticed that the JFK Marching Band takes part in all community activities in our city.  However, ’s Marching Band is never around.  Why is that?

I hope to once again see JFk’s Marching Band at the Dominican Parade and I would hope that ’s Marching Band would make an appearance.

Over the last several years Eastside High School has not had a steady, full-time band director. Ever since Mr. Davis, the former EHS band director, went to Rosa Parks the program has barely remained alive.
Due to a greater emphasis being placed on test scores, arts education is being put to the side. The amount of public school music teachers in Paterson have decreased over the last few years!
Building a successful band program is hard work. Hopefully the new band director at Eastside will be able to restore the program and increase its community presence.

it might be because kennedy’s band director is spanish and eastside’s not

Kennedy participates in all parades not only Spanish ones - that includes that African American Parade every other celebration in Paterson.

Both Eastside and Kennedy are in the same school district with the same pressure to get high scores. Its all about being part of the community.

If Kennedy can do it, why Eastside cant?

Kennedy participates in all parade not only Hispanic ones - that includes the African American Parade and any other parade.

Both Kennedy and Eastside are in the same school district with the same pressure to get high test scores.

Why is it that Kennedy can do and Eastside cant?

I DO NOT KNOW TO MUCH ABOUT PATTERSON . I NEVER SAW KENNEDY IN ACTION BUT I DO KNOW THAT EAST SIDE WAS THE ALTIMATE MARCHING BAND IN THE SEVENTIES AND EIGHTIES. THEY USE TO COME TO NEWARK BLACK HERITAGE PARADE AND TOTALLY DESTROY NEWARKS MARCHING BANDS. NEWARK HAD SOME GOOD MARCHING BANDS BACK THEN BUT EAST TRAINED AT FLORIDA A&M BAND CAMP. I KNOW AND MET SOME OLD MEMBERS WHO USE TO MARCH FOR EAST SIDE. I SAW THEM IN THE HERITAGE PARADE IN NEWARK IN 04 AND THEY DID NOT SOUND NOR LOOK GOOD. ONLY BAND MAKING ANY NOISE IN NEWARK IS SHABAZZ HOLLA.

Our band participates in the parades to make a name for our selves in order to get sponsers. We need new instruments and uniforms and busses but we can’t do that without money. We also compete in competitions all over New Jersey and last year we had the oppritunity to go to Baltimore Maryland to compete in the Nationals.
Our band is much more than Eastside has the oppritunity to be we get down and dirty but we can still march corp. style.
