Paterson’s Papa John’s Pizza provides bad customer service

When I found out Papa John’s Pizza was coming to , I got really excited.  When I heard the place had opened, I passed by to check out their operation.  Furthermore, I think I have ordered from them more than a dozen times - usually spending more than $30 per order.

Last night, I went to the Papa John’s website and ordered 2 large pies, cheese sticks and a 2 liter Sprite for pick up.  I sent my nephew - who is in his 20s - to pick up the order.  When he arrived home, I noticed that they did not give him the 2 liter Sprite. So I decided to call the store to rectify the situation.

Here is where things went awry.

When I called, someone picked up the phone and I told her had happened.  She informed me that if I wanted the soda, I would have to go back to the store to pick it up.  I disagreed, so I asked to speak to a manager.  The manager restated her position that if I wanted the soda I would have to go back to the store to get it and blamed my nephew for not getting the soda.  I disagreed again, so I asked to speak to the owner - a gentleman by the name of Dexter.  When Dexter came on the line he again stated that if I wanted the soda I would have to go back to the store; reiterated that it was my nephew’s fault for not getting the soda himself and then went on to say that if he send me the soda, he would have to pay the driver and that he was not going to do that.

Now here is the thing:

All I was asking for was them to provide me with, not good, but great by rectifying an error that they committed.  However, that didnt happened.  Thus far I estimate that I have spent more than $300 in Dexter’s business and who knows how much more money I was going to spend over the years to come.  But I won’t spend a penny more in that store.  They even kept the soda because we never went to get it.  This is the reason why GREAT is so important to keep customers coming.

Here is the worst part:

A couple of months ago I was at sister’s house in .   We decided to order Pizza from the Papa John’s on Lakeview Ave in .  I ordered 2 large pies - one thin crust and the other regular.  When the pizza arrived, I realized that they had sent me 2 regular pies and no thin crust.  I called the store and spoke to the manager about it.  He apologized and sent me the thin crust and told me to keep the other pie - the manager said it was on them.

Now that’s great !

From now on I will be getting my Papa John’s Pizza from them.

Any new business with new employees in likely to mess up orders but the important thing like you said is rectifying the situation. I have experienced having my orders messed up in the fairly new Popeye’s Chicken in Paterson and Pollo Tropical in Clifton and in both instances they provided great customer service in giving me the item and saying keep the original incorrect “on them”.
I hope Papa Johns rights their wrong or else they will be loosing more clientele.

just suck it up and stop whining or as we say around the way man up

Man up? I am not whining, I am informing. This is not footbal game or boxing match, so there is no need to “man up.” As a consumer I expect a certain quality of service, maybe you dont, but I do.

    Concerned resident,
I always said that is because of people like you- that we still have people like the owner, the manager, and employees at this papa johns and other businesses. He paid for good service not just the pizza. When you choose a business over another, you’re choosing their “good” service. Do You Understand.

I dont understand; you live in the NY Metro area. This area is rich in good/great pizzarias that are not part of a chain. Your first mistake was to think that Papa Johns was “good” pizza. It’s horrible! Try a place like Dominicks on Union Ave in Totowa, I guarentee you’ll never go back to Papa Johns,Dominos, Pizza Hut, ect.

I heard that Patsy’s Tavern on 72 7th Avenue has great pizza as well. Has anyone been to Patsy’s?
